Footnote.
Having now run over 145 miles with the loco, I can honestly say that it is one of the best battery powered locos I have ever driven. (An opinion that is shared by everybody that has had a go with it.)

Hello there, I have recently purchased a kit from AME and thought I would write a few words for the customer forum if I may: Bought a railbus kit in 5" from AME. Arrived incredibly well packaged and quickly too. First impressions on unwrapping the kit were a very high quality body and chassis, the powder coating on the chassis is superb, body is well shaped and strong. Kit parts very comprehensive just requiring wiring for the horn/ lights relay panel and a set of battery terminals. Turning quality on the wheels is very good and the axles are ok too. Had one or two very minor niggles but a phone call to Pete soon put those right, he is a great bloke to deal with - extremely friendly and very very helpful indeed. This kit really does represent excellent value for money and I would recommend it to anybody whether they be a beginner or expert.

Hi there,
I recently sent a short item about the railbus, which you kindly posted on the site.
Have a bit of an update to add now after the motor problems we had after the demise of Fasco. The kit was originally supplied with 24 volt fasco motors geared at about 3 to 1 ratio. This initially caused the loco to perform fairly sluggishly and would not pull much of a load. Now the motors have been changed to 12v 285 watt models and the gearing reduced, it is now a completely different machine. I wont reveal what top speed I had out of it but suffice to say, it was a bit hair raising indeed.
The power of what is essentially a fairly small 040 loco is simply phenomenal, and will impress you no end, it is limited merely to what traction it has, not limited by the power. Another thing that this model lends itself well to is personal detailing. The basic kit comes with vynil stick on graphics to represent the doors, windows, lights etc.
I detailed mine with windows, doors etc built from Plasticard, detailed the front end the same way, added lights and handrails. It has turned out to be a very satisfying project and looks good too, so you are limited only by the scope of your imagination as to what can be done and do as little or as much as you like and still have a cracking model. This model is far more fun that it has any right to be for an entry level job and if you are considering purchasing one, I urge you to do it as you will not regret it.Huge thanks to Pete, whose patience, knowledge and advice was always cheerfully and freely given - he is a real toff!!
Thanks
Trev.
